Maryland Senator Chris Van Hollen dismissed President Donald Trump’s claims that Iran posed a serious weapons threat to American security and even described him as a liar.
During an interview with the television channel MS NOW, The 67-year-old democrat pointed out that the nation’s president has taken it upon himself to present the Islamic Republic as a nation very close to building a nuclear bomb.this with the aim of justifying the military offensive ordered against them since February 28.
“We have a country that is not going to launch a nuclear weapon at us in six months. All this was an invention by the president to justify his actions while Americans suffer here at home,” he said.
Van Hollen then reproached the New York magnate for the high cost of the war reflected in the death of several members of the US armed forces and in billions of dollars spent.
“We have lost 13 of our soldiers, there are hundreds of wounded and thousands of civilians dead in the region. And we are paying $2,000 million dollars a day, us, the American taxpayers, while gasoline prices rise. The war should never have started,” he stressed.

For this reason, the Democratic legislator promised not to support Trump’s request made to Congress requesting more money to invest in the war conflict.
“Donald Trump is talking about asking for another $200 billion, but I will not vote one more cent for this illegal war that they themselves have decided to release,” he warned.
While all this is happening, the Iranian authorities continue to deny accusations that a nuclear weapon is being developed in their country and insist on defining their nuclear program as a project for peaceful purposes.
A controversial point is that, for the Washington government, there are two weeks left to agree on a definitive peace agreement, since if it offered resistance, the devastation would most likely resume in cities such as Tehran or Isfahan, the Iranian city where a Nuclear Technology Center is located.
