Alexis Vega has had many problems with injuries throughout his career. Physical problems did not allow “Gru” to leave Liga MX. A few weeks before the 2026 World Cup, Vega is hoping to attend. The Mexican tries to overcome problems with his knee.
The Toluca Red Devils footballer has accumulated few minutes with the club this season. Alexis Vega had a lot of time playing with discomfort and He decided to have a treatment on the affected area so he could feel better.
“I wasn’t planning on doing the cleaning. I’ve been playing with my knee like this for almost a year and a half. I didn’t have any pain until one day during training I felt a puncture in which I couldn’t extend my knee anymore. Abilities a sign that I had to do the cleaning. I believe that God puts things in their place. He sent me this test on time. I thank you very much because I have had time to recover,” Vega said in statements compiled by Fox Sports.
The “cleaning” that Alexis Vega speaks of is a knee arthroscopy. This is a minimally invasive surgical procedure. What is sought is “repair” or “clean” the joint without the need for major surgery. The aim is to eliminate fragments of loose cartilage or bone and damaged tissues that affect the joint.
Alexis Vega had this intervention done in time to recover and play some games with his club. The “Gru” aims to be in the 2026 World Cup. But first he will have to gain rhythm with Toluca. This season he has only played 7 games (330 minutes on the field).
“Many people out there are paying attention and are very entertained by my knee. We already know that it is a damaged knee, a knee that I have been playing with for quite some time. Now I feel quite well. For those who are worried, I tell you that I am quite well. I have the World Cup very close, but I am thinking first of getting into a rhythm with my team to be able to help the national team as well.“, he added.
Alexis Vega has played 50 games with the Mexican team. The “Gru” has contributed 7 goals and 7 assists in more than 2,400 minutes on the field. Alexis Vega is looking to play in his second World Cup. In Qatar 2022 he saw minutes in all 3 of El Tri’s games.
