Tragedy avoided in Houston church: guard neutralizes heavily armed man

A man armed with a loaded revolver and more than 100 rounds of ammunition was detained inside a Houston church before he could open fire. The intervention of a security guard prevented what could have become a tragedy.

The suspect, Emmanuel Ahsono Mbwavi, 23, was arrested after being subdued by a security guard inside the Eden Church, which holds services at the Post Leisure Heart, in Houston, Texas, Fox News reported.

According to the police, The man was carrying a loaded firearm and a large amount of ammunition.

Previous suspicions alerted the church

The authorities indicated that Mbwavi had already been identified by the security team, since weeks before he had been expelled from the place after trying to distribute leaflets considered “concerning.”

For this reason, the internal most of the temple remained attentive to his presence during religious services.

According to court documents, a guard observed the suspect following a pastor to the bathroom and behaving in an unusual manner.

Later, another pastor confronted him, at which point the guard noticed that Mbwavi was holding the handle of a gun in his pocket.

Upon realizing that the suspect was trying to reach for the gun, the guard immediately tackled him to the ground.

Fear of a major attack

During the struggle, the accused had his phone in his hand and apparently was counting down, which made those present fear the possible detonation of an explosive.

Besides, He allegedly shouted death threats against a pastor, whom he called a “false prophet.”

Authorities said the phone contained notes with references to a possible attack.

Mbwavi was carrying a .22 caliber revolver with six bullets in the drum, plus more than 100 additional ammunition in his backpack.

He was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

The case remains under investigation as authorities evaluate the extent of the suspect’s intentions.
