In a joint statement, the Busch family, Richard Childress Racing and NASCAR remembered the legacy left by one of the most influential figures in American motorsports.

“All our NASCAR family heartbroken over loss of Kyle Busch“, they noted.

“A future Hall of Famer, Kyle was a rare, once-in-a-generation talent. Generation was fierce, passionate, immensely talented and deeply loved this sport and the fans,” it added.

The message also highlighted the connection he built with the public during his career: “His keen sense of humor and competitive spirit generated a deep emotional connection with fans of all ages, creating the proud and loyal ‘Rowdy Nation’. NASCAR lost one of the giants of the sport today, too soon.”

Kyle Busch’s legacy in NASCAR: championships, records and victories

Originally from Las Vegas, Kyle Busch won the championships Cup Sequence in 2015 and 2019, establishing himself as one of the most successful drivers of his generation.

Throughout his career he accumulated 234 victories in NASCAR’s three main national categories, a figure that made him the driver with the most victories in the history of the organization.

In addition, he achieved 63 victories in the Cup Sequence, including the prestigious Coca-Cola 600 of 2018.

Busch was going through his fourth season with Richard Childress Racingafter having achieved their titles with Joe Gibbs Racing. His most recent triumph had come in 2023, already as an RCR driver.

In the current season he was in 24th place in the championship, with two Top 10s in 12 races held.

Kyle Busch was set to miss a NASCAR race for the first time in more than a decade

The driver’s family previously reported that the illness would prevent him from competing this weekend in the Charlotte Motor Speedwayscene of the Coca-Cola 600.

Had his absence been confirmed, it would have been the first time in more than 10 years that Busch did not participate in a Cup Sequence race.

The last time he was off the track occurred in 2015, when he missed the first 11 races of the season after suffering an open leg fracture and a foot injury in a crash during the opening of the Xfinity Sequence at Daytona.

Speedway Motorsports pays tribute to Kyle Busch

The Speedway Motorsports company, owner of the Charlotte Motor Speedway, also dedicated an emotional message to the driver.

Marcus Smith, CEO of the organization, called Busch “a once-in-a-generation competitor.”

“At Charlotte Motor Speedway, Kyle left his name etched with more victories in NASCAR’s top three series than any other driver in our sport, highlighted by his victory in the 2018 Coca-Cola 600,” he said.

Smith also recalled the more non-public side of the racer: “Generation was a dedicated father and a loyal friend,” he commented, referring to the relationship that Busch shared with his son Brexton within motorsports.

The rivalry between Kyle Busch and Denny Hamlin marked his last months in NASCAR

In recent months, Busch had also been the topic of conversation due to his tense relationship with Denny Hamlinhis former teammate at Joe Gibbs Racing.

Hamlin commented on the “Actions Detrimental” podcast:

“If you expect Kyle Busch to regularly return to victory lane, you’re kidding yourself.”

Although he later clarified that he did not mean to offend him, Busch responded by saying that he could make his life “hell” on the track.

The rivalry was exposed during the Kansas race last month, when Busch made it difficult for Hamlin to advance despite being several laps behind.

However, both seemed to have put their differences behind them recently. Hamlin even went so far as to place Busch on the “Mount Rushmore” of racing.
