A mother and her 13-year-old son died last week in a fireapparently intentional, after fleeing an incident of domestic violence they suffered in Mexico.
Rossy Bórquez and his son Atiel were identified by relatives like the victims who died in the fire that broke out on May 14 in the city of Montebello, in Los Angeles County.
The flames broke out shortly after 4:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 14, at his home in the 100 block of South Fifth Side motorwaysouth of Whittier Boulevard in the city of Montebello, where neighbors reported hearing explosions before the fire engulfed the home.

According to Diogeyda Rodríguez, spoke with her friend’s sister in San Diego and confirmed that Rossy and his son Atiel were the ones who died in the fire in Montebello.

A video posted on the suspect’s own social media account captured a previous confrontation in which he threatened the woman while she was sitting in a vehicle, when he told him: “You are going to pay for this where it hurts the most.”.
Neighbors said they saw the mother running away from the burning house with her clothes and hair completely burned. The 13-year-old boy did not have the opportunity to leave the burned home.
“We saw a man and a woman on fire. The truth is that all his skin had come off, his hair had been completely burned and he couldn’t stop screaming for help for his son,” said Alisson Gómez, a neighbor who lives in the apartment opposite the one affected by the fire.

The fire was quickly extinguished by the Montebello Fire Department.and both the man and the woman were transferred in critical condition to a hospital, where they later died. The child’s body was found inside the home.
“At the moment, we believe the man involved in this case is the suspect. Everything seems to indicate that this is an incident related to domestic violence,” said Montebello Police Department Chief Luis López.
The identity of the suspect has not been published.
