After the birth of his daughter, Lu, in July 2025, The actress Carmen Aub and her husband, the filmmaker Iván Sikic, faced a few difficult months, since the girl was diagnosed with moderate to severe hearing loss.
After her birth, the protagonist of “The Lord of the Rings” had also confessed that it was a hard process. At that time, he stated that his daughter arrived at 3:39 in the afternoon, after an intense 24-hour labor.
In a recent interview with Folks en Español, Aub opened her heart and recounted the difficult emotional process she went through upon receiving medical confirmation. As she explained, shortly after giving birth, Lu failed an initial hearing test at the sanatorium. New, more in-depth studies ended up confirming the diagnosis.
“How am I going to communicate with my daughter? What does this mean?” the actress recalled. She expressed that uncertainty invaded both her and her partner, and even more so when she thought that neither she nor Sikic had a family history of deafness.

The actress admitted that, despite considering herself a strong and resilient woman, the emotional impact was overwhelming.
“I remember that that first week I couldn’t stop crying. I talked to Iván and told him: ‘I can’t do this.’ “I’m going to be the worst mom.”he confessed.
During the interview, she expressed that both she and her husband made the decision to act immediately and began to seek specialized information to guarantee the well-being of their daughter.
In fact, he revealed that one of the most important was moving to New York, United States, to access quality treatments and medical follow-up. In addition, he emphasized that his greatest wish is to contribute to eliminating the stigmas around this condition.
