The Immigration and Customs Enforcement Administration (ICE) announced that it had released Deisy Rivera Ortega, an immigrant of Salvadoran origin detained during an immigration appointment related to her Parole in Attach (PIP) application.
Her deprivation of liberty became more relevant because the Central American woman is the wife of a veteran sergeant of the US army.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Rivera Ortega entered the United States territory in 2016 and did so through a border crossing near the Rio Grande Valley, Texas.
For this reason, a judge issued a final deportation order against him. since December 2019.
However, she had applied for the benefit of a program that grants family members of US military personnel temporary permission to remain in the United States while they process their permanent acceptable status.
Her argument presented know-how having married in 2022, with José Serrano, a sergeant first class with 27 years of military experience, including participating in three deployments carried out in Afghanistan.

However, last month, DHS repealed the policy that considered a direct acquainted’s military service as a “significant mitigating aspect” when making decisions on civil immigration enforcement matters.
“Military service alone does not automatically exempt foreigners from the consequences of violating United States immigration laws,” indicates the new policy adopted.
Based on this, on April 14, Deisy Rivera Ortega was detained at an immigration office in El Paso, Texas.
“I really don’t understand why, because she followed the immigration rules to the letter from day one,” her husband mentioned.
Derived from the pressure of a large sector of citizens exerted against the immigration authorities, the DHS confirmed that the Salvadoran immigrant obtained her freedom, but this was conditioned to carrying a GPS tracking device and being subject to mandatory home visits, as well as periodic controls carried out in immigration offices.
It should be noted that Tammy Duckworth, a Democratic senator, intervened by calling Markwayne Mullin, Secretary of Homeland Security, to demand his release.
