The woman, 33 years old and identified as Mariela “N”, was detained near the toll booth in the municipality of Valtierrilla, east of Salamanca, on the Morelia-Salamanca highway, after the police noticed that she was not wearing a seat belt.

The suspect handed over her documentation while a visible inspection was carried out, followed by a preventive inspection. During the inspection, an officer discovered a package that appeared to be cocaine in the glove compartment.

The police immediately informed the woman of her rights and confiscated the vehicle before requesting the presence of the Army and the National Guard. The two minors traveling with the woman were removed from the vehicle and placed in protective custody.

The authorities continued to carry out a more exhaustive inspection of the vehicle, from which they extracted and seized dozens of packages of cocaine, later estimating that the amount seized amounted to 59,550 doses.

The drugs and the woman were handed over to the Total Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic for processing. The corresponding consular notifications were made, in accordance with current regulations.

The Secretary of Security of Guanajuato, Juan Mauro González, indicated that authorities will try to determine the final destination, as well as the weight and value of the drugs, as part of the ongoing investigation.

González explained in a social media post that The seizure was carried out as part of Operation Guanajuato Shielda permanent surveillance and prevention strategy on state highways, coordinated with the Ministry of Defense.

“From September 26, 2024 to April 30, 2026, more than 2.3 million doses of drugs have been seized in our state, which represents an estimated loss of more than 712 million pesos ($41.3 million dollars) for criminal economies,” González told the press.
