With white flowers, war band music and applause, family, classmates and teachers said their last goodbye to Kevin Gonzalezan 18-year-old young man who died from terminal colon cancer in Durango.
The tribute of the present body was held at the high school where he studied, in an environment marked by sadness, but also by the affection of those who shared moments with him.
Kevin’s coffin was received by students dressed in white, who kept a minute of silence while the drums of the campus war band resonated.
Although The young man was unable to complete his studies due to his illnessthe school community decided to symbolically say goodbye to him in the place where he dreamed of graduating.
“Today we find ourselves here with great pain in our hearts,” expressed Citlali Zamarripa, the young man’s partner, in statements reported by Telemundo Chicago.
“Thank you for your friendship, for your way of being and for all the moments you gave us,” he added during the tribute.
Deported parents managed to say goodbye to Kevin
One of the most emotional moments of the farewell was the presence of Kevin’s parents, who managed to return in an emergency after being deported from the United States to accompany his son in his last days.
Relatives from Chicago also traveled to Durango to be present at the funeral. Due to this, the wake that began on Monday was postponed until Wednesday, May 13 to await his arrival.
Nancy Ramírez, the young man’s aunt, said that The move from the United States was complicated and that even one of Kevin’s brothers could not travel.
“We couldn’t get there sooner, but here we are with her. We are a very united family; “Your pain is our pain,” he commented.
According to friends and colleagues, Kevin was remembered as a cheerful young manextroverted and passionate about music and football.
“He always listened to music and told us to stay united as a class,” Teresa Guadalupe Alcántar recalled.

Kevin was buried with the América shirt
After the school tribute, Kevin’s body was taken to a church in the city for a farewell mass. Later, family and friends participated in a procession to the pantheon where he was finally buried.
One of the details that most moved those who attended was that The young man, who would have turned 19 on May 26, was buried wearing the Club América shirt, a team of which he was a fan.
