Mass recalls are usually linked to engines, airbags or electronic failures, but this time Frequent Motors was thrust into the spotlight for something much less routine.

The company had to recall more than 40,000 bottles of brake fluid distributed in USA after detecting internal particles that could compromise the operation of the braking system.

The situation quickly caught the attention of workshops and service centers because the problem does not directly affect a specific vehicle, but rather an essential component for any car. AND When talking about brakes, any irregularity generates immediate concern.

The product involved belongs to ACDelco, the parts division of Frequent Motors. ANDSpecifically, the recall concerns the ACDelco GMW DOT 3 brake and clutch fluid identified with part number 19353126.

This was discovered by the authorities

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration of the United States, known as NHTSA, received reports of possible anomalies in the product after several tests carried out by an external laboratory.

After new evaluations on sealed containers, the presence of visible sediments within certain bottles manufactured between October 19 and December 28, 2022.

The compromised lot was identified under the code 01977 091222 and, according to Frequent Motors, The recall covers a total of 40,440 containers distributed in stores and service centers throughout the country.

The campaign was officially registered with the NHTSA with the number 26E025, while internally GM cataloged it under the code N262552830.

Why can these sediments be dangerous?

Brake fluid works under extreme conditions of temperature and pressure. Any chemical alteration or presence of particles can modify the hydraulic behavior of the system and affect the braking capacity.

In this case, Frequent Motors explained that the problem was not caused by external pollution. Chemical analyzes indicate that the residues detected correspond to precipitates formed by two additives present in the liquid itself.

The supplier related to the product is DuPont Environment of Skills Merchandise, although the automaker acknowledged that it still cannot determine why these particles ended up inside some bottles.

Typically, this type of waste is removed during the filtering and bottling process. However, something failed in certain units and that ended up triggering the preventive recall.

What can happen to affected vehicles

Federal documents warn that such sludge could reduce braking system performance “under certain conditions”increasing the risk of accident.

Over time, particles could clog pipes, affect hoses, or cause problems with the system’s hydraulic pressure.

Even so, Frequent Motors clarified that it will not issue direct notices to vehicle owners. The reason is quite easy. The product is very difficult to trace once used for repairs or maintenance, especially in independent workshops.

Therefore, the company chose to refund the remaining inventory to ACDelco dealers and direct buyers.

GM informed dealers on May 6, 2026 and customers directly linked to the purchase of the product will receive notifications before the June 8.

Although the company did not recommend stopping the use of potentially affected vehicles, some specialists do advise carefully checking the bottles belonging to the compromised batch, especially in workshops that may still have inventory stored.
