The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, This Wednesday he denied that agents of the US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) operate in Mexican territoryfollowing a CNN report on an alleged undercover operation in the State of Mexico in which a member of a drug trafficking cartel died.
“It is absolutely false”stated in his daily conference after the note that attributed to the prosecutor of the State of Mexico information about the presence of CIA agents in an operation that ended with the death of Francisco Efraín Beltrán, ‘El Payín’, alleged operator of the Sinaloa Cartel, on the outskirts of the Mexican capital.
Sheinbaum said that the Attorney General’s Office of the State of Mexico itself published on Tuesday that what was stated in the publication was false, and recalled that the Secretary of Security and Citizen Protection, Omar García Harfuch, also rejected the version.
“First, it is false that CIA agents operate in territory“said the Mexican leader, who clarified that there are permits for United States agencies, but “perfectly marked” by the Mexican Constitution and the National Security Law.
“They are only those who are accredited by the United States Government to carry out tasks that are perfectly determined by the National Security Law,” he insisted.

Sheinbaum called CNN’s version “sensational” and “untrue,” and said that even the CIA spokesperson came out to deny it, something that, he said, surprised him.
He also criticized a later publication by The New York Times, which later noted that the CIA had provided information to locate ‘El Payín’ and that the bomb that caused the death of the drug trafficker was planted by Mexican authorities.
“It’s absurd. As if there were a special area of the Government of Mexico dedicated to placing bombs to eliminate criminal groups, it is a fiction the size of the universe,” he said.
The president linked these versions to groups from Mexico and the United States that, she said, seek to provoke a bad bilateral relationship and justify a US intervention in Mexican territory.
“The important thing is that we do not fall into that trap. and in that provocation, neither the Government nor the citizens (…) Of course we collaborate so that there is no drug trafficking, but the considerable objective is the peace and security of the people of Mexico,” he concluded.
This alleged CIA operation, reported by CNN, occurs amid tensions between Mexico and Washington due to external interference, after the Attorney General’s Office (FGR) opened an investigation into the alleged participation weeks ago of two US agents in an anti-drug operation in Chihuahua. EFE
