A toddler was injured Saturday at a zoo inside Hersheypark, Pennsylvania.after entering a restricted area near the wolf enclosure.
According to a statement from the Derry Municipality police, the minor managed to slip through an opening in a wooden barrier and approach the metal fence of the habitat.
The boy, just 17 months old, put his hand through the fence, at which point one of the wolves reacted instinctively and grabbed his hand.
Animal reaction and rescue
The authorities indicated that the animal’s behavior was “pure” and avoided describing it as an attack.
Witnesses who were at the scene intervened quickly and managed to separate the minor from the animal, preventing the situation from escalating.
