The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced to American consumers the voluntary recall of Spring & Mulberry brand chocolate bars due to salmonella contamination.
The recall of the product began last Friday, May 8, after an investigation by the health agency when it was found that the dates used in making the chocolate bars tested positive for contamination.
Through a statement on their website, The manufacturer highlighted that “extensive root cause investigation has identified a single batch of dates used in the production of the company’s chocolate as the most likely source of contamination,” it stated.
In addition, Spring & Mulberry detailed in the announcement which chocolate bars were affected with their batch codes and flavors:
- Blood orange: 025217, 025289, 025325.
- Coffee: 025226, 025274, 025344.
- Earl Grey: 025346.
- Lavender Rose: 025204, 025205, 025212, 025216, 026037, 026040.
- Chile Mango: 025245, 025322, 025328.
- Mint leaf: 025225, 025272, 025342, 025364.
- Mixed berries: 025220, 025223, 025247, 025248, 025251, 025253, 025288, 025296, 025335, 026008.
- Mulberry Fennel: 025230, 025287.
- Pecan date: 025233, 025237, 025238, 025239, 025240, 025241, 025290, 025294, 025329, 025330.
- Pure Darkish: 025217, 025218, 025219, 025254, 025266, 025269, 025324, 025338, 025350.
- Pure Darkish Mini: 025302, 025303, 026009.
- Sea salt: 026013, 026014.
According to the FDA, Consumption of foods contaminated with salmonella can cause serious infections; The symptoms of poisoning are diarrhea, fever, vomiting, stomach cramps, which can sometimes be fatal in children, pregnant women, older adults and people with weak immune systems.
In this sense, both the manufacturer and the FDA recommend that consumers discard the product or return it to the store where they purchased it for a refund.
