Extreme heat raises fire risk in Southern California

The high temperatures predicted for this Monday, May 11 increase the danger that brush fires could start in southern California.

According to him National Weather Service (NWS)this Monday is forecast to be one of the hottest days of 2026, with records that may be between 15 and 20 degrees above average in all the valleys in the interior of the region.

The NWS forecast indicates that thermometers exceed three digits in the desertsin inland areas they are recorded between 80 and 90 degrees, and 70 degrees in coastal areas.

An extreme heat alert is in effect for this Mondaya day when the weather conditions are favorable for fires to break out due to terrain with dry vegetation, strong winds and low humidity.

“Tomorrow (Monday) will be very hot, with temperatures 20 to 25 degrees above unparalleled in many places! If you have to be outdoors, be sure to drink plenty of water and take frequent breaks. “Try to avoid physical activity during the hottest hours!” the NWS said.

Among the locations with the highest temperatures Expected in the region include:

  • Palm Springs: 108°F (42.2°C)
  • San Bernardino: 100°F (37.7°C)
  • Hemet: Ninety 9°F (37.2°C)
  • Lake Elsinore: 98°F (36.6°C)
  • Victorville: 98°F (36.6°C)
  • riverside: 96°F (35.5°C)
  • ontario: 95°F (35°C)
  • Temecula: 93°F (33.8°C)
  • Anaheim: 89°F (31.6°C)

The specialists mentioned that Minimum humidity levels could drop up to 15% in inland areaswith speed gusts up to 35 miles per hour.

The authorities Residents asked to stay hydratedavoid prolonged exposure to the sun and be aware of vulnerable family members, pets and neighbors during the period of extreme heat.

Following the extreme heat conditions predicted for Monday, NWS meteorologists said, For this Tuesday, May 12, a decrease in records of between eight and ten degrees is expectedwith the return of low clouds, fog and winds coming from the sea.

The heat is expected to return next weekendespecially in the San Fernando Valley and areas of the Inland Empire.
