It’s happened to you a thousand times. You are calmly scrolling through your Instagram feed, you start to see a Reel that catches your attention, but before finishing it or saving it the feed refreshes and the video disappears as if it never existed. You look for it, you look for it and nothing. This feeling of frustration is one of the most common among users of the platform, and until recently there was no clear solution. Luckily, Instagram already has the answer we were all waiting for.

The good news is that starting in late 2025, Meta implemented a feature that changes the rules of the game for those of us who consume movies on the platform. You no longer need to save a Reel to find it again later. Adam Mosseri himself, director of Instagram, was the one who announced the news directly through a Reel on his profile, confirming that the option was now available to all users. And the best thing is that it’s buried in a menu that many people don’t even know exists.

How to activate view history on Instagram

The path to reach the history is simpler than it seems. It all starts from your user profile, that screen you have in the far right corner of the app. Once there, Tap the three horizontal lines that appear at the top rightthose that many completely ignore. That icon hides much more than it seems.

After touching the three stripes, enter the section “Your activity”. This section brings together a complete record of everything you do within the application. Inside you will find comments, likes, searches and, the star of this guide, the “Viewing history”. Just scroll down until you find that option and tap it. At that moment you will see all the Reels that you have played, ordered chronologically.

What makes this function especially useful is the possibility of Filter content by date or account. Mosseri explained it in detail in his announcement: “You can sort it from newest to oldest or vice versa. You can also go directly to a specific date, choose a date range, or even filter by the account that posted the Reel.” In other words, if you remember that you saw something funny last week on a specific influencer’s profile, you can go straight to that without having to scroll infinitely.

What to do if the history does not appear in your app

If after following the steps you do not see the “View History” option in your account, it is most likely that you need to update the application to its latest version. Instagram launched this feature unhurriedly, so some devices received it before others. Go to your phone’s app store, search for Instagram, and check if there is a pending update. Once you update, the section should appear without problems within “Your activity”.

Another thing worth remembering is that, if you want to save a specific Reel to always have it on hand without depending on history, you can use the flag icon appearing in the atrocious right corner of the video to add it to your saved collection. So you have two methods available, a passive one that records everything automatically and another active one that allows you to organize what you like most.

Instagram view history is one of those changes that seem small but completely transform the way you use the app. You will never again lose that video that made you laugh, that tutorial that you wanted to watch calmly or that clip that you wanted to share with someone. The feature is already there, waiting for you to discover it.
