Miguel Herrera He was officially presented as the new coach of the Atlanteana club that will return to Liga MX. “El Piojo” is a prestigious coach in Mexican soccer. However, Herrera himself acknowledged that he must rise from his “failures.”
The former Águilas del América coach will take on a new project with the Iron Foals. The Mexican strategist will lead Atlante for a period of two years of contract (until May 2028). Herrera will have the support of Federico Vilar and Ricardo Carbajal as assistants.
However, Miguel Herrera left a very clear objective in his presentation. “El Piojo” must stop the bad streak of processes he has had in his career. Herrera himself is aware of this and hopes to be able to reverse his present with Atlante.
“You have to get up from defeats, from failures And what better way to do it than with the team I love, with all the support and trust they have given me,” he acknowledged.
After a successful stint with the Águilas del América between 2017 and 2020, Miguel Herrera has had some problems with his recent projects. The first of them was with the UANL Tigers.
“El Piojo” had a really competitive squad, but could not achieve the objectives set. Herrera directed 61 matches with the university team and could only leave a steadiness of 31 wins, 13 draws and 19 losses. The most he reached was two semi-finals.
With the Xolos of Tijuana the result was not very different. The “La Frontera” team only had to compete. But with Miguel Herrera they did not manage to reposition themselves in important positions within Mexican soccer. “El Piojo” only directed 47 games in which he obtained 10 victories, 13 draws and 24 losses. He could not qualify the team to any Liguilla.
The third and most recent step was the selection of Costa Rica. With the “Ticos” he also suffered a resounding fall. In the Costa Rican team only He directed 15 matches. Herrera left a steadiness of 7 wins, 5 draws and 3 losses. “El Piojo” could not take the Costa Rican team to the World Cup in qualifying without Mexico, the United States and Canada.
