Nintendo Swap 2 increases its price to $499.ninety nine and confirms that the consoles are no longer going to drop

Consoles no longer go down in price, they go up. Nintendo has just confirmed that the Nintendo Swap 2 will cost $499.ninety nine dollars starting September 1, 2026which represents an increase of $50 dollars over its launch price of $449.ninety nine dollars. A move that, far from being an isolated case, confirms a trend that is gaining strength throughout the gaming industry.

The console that debuted just a few months ago is already more expensive. There is no new version, there is no hardware update, there is no new special edition. Same product, higher price. That says a lot about the moment that consumer electronics is going through globally.

Price increases are becoming more common

Nintendo did not come to this decision alone. The Japanese company openly acknowledged the impact of the increase and apologized to its customerssomething that, although it does not return the $50 dollars to your pocket, at least shows a more transparent position than that of other manufacturers that usually hide behind vague statements.

What is interesting is that the company did not try to hide the reasons behind the increase. In its statement, Nintendo pointed to “changes in market conditions and global trade prospects” as the factors that motivated the decision. A corporate phrase that, translated into everyday language, means that manufacturing the console costs more today than it did a year ago.

The factors are several and known. The increase in the cost of RAM and storage components, driven in part by the growing demand for man-made intelligence data centers; instability in global supply chains; and a macroeconomic environment that does not give up. Those costs end up reaching the finest consumer, whether they like it or not.

The irony is that Nintendo Swap 2 thus arrives at the $499.ninety nine dollars, the same price at which the PlayStation 5 originally launchedmaking it an awkward milestone for Nintendo’s most beloved console.

Sony and Xbox have already led the way

Nintendo was not the first to move. Sony raised the prices of the PlayStation 5, PS5 Pro and PlayStation Portal at the end of March 2026and analysts from the firm Ampere Diagnosis have since pointed out that it was just the beginning of a trend that would spread to the entire industry. Piers Harding-Rolls, an analyst at that firm, was clear: the increase in prices of gaming hardware is here to stay.

Microsoft was not left out of the movement either. Xbox announced increases in its Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoleswith the Xbox Series The Redmond company justified it with its already well-known phrase about “changes in the macroeconomic environment”, making direct reference to the impact of tariffs on products imported to the United States.

With the big three in the console market applying increases to their products, we can no longer talk about isolated decisions by each company. This is a restructuring of the perceived value of the industryand the players are the ones who are footing the bill.

One thing that is clear is that $500 dollars is becoming the new standard for next-generation gaming. If before that price was the ceiling, today it seems to be the floor. And with manufacturing costs showing no signs of slowing down, this may not be the last time we see such news for years to come.
