Many drivers in Latin America still remember the Corsican like that small car, reliable and easy to see on any street. In markets like Mexico it managed to become a true sales phenomenon, while in Europe built a reputation tied to practicality and fun driving.

Now, Opel decided to give a completely different spin to that story with an electric version that aims directly at lovers of speed.

The new Opel Corsa GSE appears as the most aggressive and sporty interpretation that this compact has received in years. The German brand took the core of the conventional electric Corsa and took it to another level with more power, a set-up focused on performance and several elements inspired by the classic European hot hatch.
The curious thing is that, despite its sporty proposal and its striking figures, this model has no plans to reach the US market.
An electric compact with a sporty soul
Opel recovered the acronym GSE, corresponding to Gargantuan Sport Electricalto return to the Corsa part of the essence left by historical models such as the Corsa GSi. The difference now is that everything revolves around electrification.
The new compact uses an electrical system capable of generating 281 horsepower and 254 pound-feet of torque. Thanks to that configuration, it manages to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 5.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 112 mph.
The proposal is not limited only to offering power in a straight line. Opel also incorporated different driving modes designed for different scenarios.
Sport mode unleashes the full potential of the system and adjusts the settings for a more aggressive experience. Same old seeks a balance for daily use, while Eco prioritizes efficiency and limits certain features to extend autonomy.

More technology and better behavior
Under the body there is a battery 54 kWh accompanied by an optimized thermal management system. This allows stable performance to be maintained even when the vehicle is pushed to the limit.
The estimated range exceeds 210 miles, a competitive figure within this segment. In addition, Opel added bidirectional V2L technology, allowing the car’s energy to be used to power external devices or power tools.
Another interesting detail appears in the tuning of the chassis. The Corsa GSE incorporates a Torsen self-locking differential, an unusual solution in compact electric cars and which considerably improves traction when exiting curves.
Added to this are a lowered suspension, specific shock absorbers and recalibrated steering to offer more precise responses.
Aggressive design and sporty details
Visually, the Corsa GSE makes it clear that it is not a conventional version. The front features much more marked lines, prominent air inlets and several details finished in black.
The dark roof and rear spoiler help reinforce the sporty image, while the 18-inch wheels accompanied by Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires complete the set.
The visible brake calipers with the GSE emblem are also part of a much more radical aesthetic than that of the traditional Corsa.

An inner designed to excite
Inside, Opel mixed modern elements with quite marked sporty nods. The seats finished in alcantara, yellow belts and contrast stitching seek to generate an atmosphere closer to that of a high-performance hatchback.
The multimedia system includes a 10-inch central screen and specific graphics related to the vehicle’s performance. The driver can view acceleration, G-force and energy management data in real time.
The Opel Corsa GSE will be officially launched towards the end of the year and, although the brand has not yet confirmed the final price, estimates point to a figure close to $40,000 dollars.
