Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán would have managed to maintain communication with his children and operators of the Sinaloa Cartel despite being held under strict isolation measures in the ADX Florence federal prison, considered the highest security prison in the United States.
According to a report from the US Federal Bureau of Prisons, cited by international media, the former leader of the Sinaloa Cartel used his lawyers to send messages to his children, known as “Los Chapitos”, among them Ivan Archivaldo, Jesus Alfredo, Ovid and Joaquín Guzmán López.
United States authorities point out that the communications included references to threats against informants, as well as instructions related to criminal activities, including drug trafficking, money laundering and human trafficking.
According to information published by the newspaper El País, Guzmán Loera managed to violate the restrictions imposed under the program known as SAM (Particular Administrative Measures), designed to prevent prisoners considered high risk from maintaining contact with external criminal organizations.
The report also links these communications to the internal dispute facing the Sinaloa Cartel between the “Los Chapitos” faction and the group related to Ismael “El Mayo” Zambadaa conflict that intensified after the capture and subsequent delivery of the Sinaloa boss to US authorities.
“El Chapo” has remained imprisoned since 2019 in ADX Florence, Colorado, where he is serving a life sentence for crimes related to drug trafficking and organized crime.
On different occasions, His defense has denounced extreme conditions of isolation and alleged violations of their human rights; However, US authorities have refused to modify their prison regime, considering it a security risk.
