Democrat Xavier Becerra caught up with Republican Steve Hilton in the preferences for governor of California, according to a survey released this Monday by the state Democratic Party.
According to the telephone and online survey in English and Spanish among 1,200 Californians, which was conducted from April 30 to May 2, Becerra, a former California prosecutor, tied with Hilton, a former Fox Records commentator, with 18% support..

The survey, prepared by the pollster Evitarus and released by the Democratic Party, showed the progress that Becerra’s campaign has achieved in the race for governorafter in the first survey, published on April 5, it had just 4%, compared to 14% for Hilton.

According to the survey, behind the leaders Becerra and Hilton, include Riverside County Sheriff Republican Chad Bianco (14%), progressive Democratic billionaire Tom Steyer (12%)former Democratic Representative Katie Porter (8%) and San Jose Mayor Matt Mahan (7%).
The survey shows that voters do not offer enough support the former mayor of Los Angeles, Democrat Antonio Villaraigosa (2%) and the superintendent of California public schools, Democrat Tony Thurmond (1%).

Democrat Betty Yee, former state comptroller, has withdrawn from the gubernatorial race last month and expressed his support for Steyer, who has failed to boost his campaign, as Becerra has, despite spending the most in the process.
In the June 2 primaries, the two candidates who obtain the highest number of votes will be the contenders that will be on the November general election ballotsin which it will be decided who will be the next governor of California.
