The governor of Sinaloa, Ruben Rocha Moyastated that he will request a “temporary license” from his position following the investigation that will be initiated by the Customary Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic (FGR) of Mexico for the US accusations against him and nine other officials for alleged links to drug trafficking and possession of weapons.
“Today I presented to the State Congress the request for a temporary license to the position of governor, while the investigation process lasts. I do so from my deep Republican conviction. I also do the above with the purpose of facilitating the actions of the Mexican authorities in the aforementioned investigation process,” said Rocha Moya in a video published on social networks.
In the midst of the political earthquake between both countries, the governor of the ruling party He reiterated that the accusations against him are “false and malicious accusations”.
In that sense, he assured that he has “a clear conscience” and that it is his “work life” that supports his statements.
“I am not going to allow myself to be used to harm the movement to which I belong and that has changed the lives of millions of Mexicans for the better,” he stated when referring to the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), founded by the former president. Andrés Manuel López Obrador.
Throughout the video, the official declared himself innocent of the accusations disclosed last Wednesday by the Prosecutor’s Office of the Southern District of New York, among which alleged conspiracies with leaders of the Sinaloa Cartel to import massive quantities of narcotics into the US in exchange for political support and bribes.
“I can see my people and my family in front of them because I have not betrayed them and I will never betray them, and I will firmly demonstrate that at the moment when the justice institutions of this country require it,” he indicated.
Like Rocha Moya, the mayor of Culiacán, Juan de Dios Gámez Mendívilanother of the officials identified by the US Department of Justice, requested a provisional license, so Miriam Ramos Villarreal entered as a substitute for the position.
The decision of both officials occurred before midnight and expeditiously in the midst of a political earthquake between both countries, a matter that the FGR will investigate after having requested “all the evidence, arguments, reports and documents” of the case.
