It is not a good week for those who trust in the robustness of the ford bronco. The iconic SUV is once again under the spotlightthis time for a problem that does not come from the factory, but from previous interventions that did not turn out as they should.

The brand detected that thousands of units could have a serious failure in the transmission or transfer case, as a result of previous poorly executed repairs.

The consequence has been clear, Ford decided to activate a preventive recall to avoid greater risks on the road.

What is really going wrong?

The origin of the problem is not on the assembly line, but rather when passing through the workshop. Some units that received maintenance or warranty work would have been reassembled incorrectly. That poor alignment between the transmission and transfer case causes progressive wear on key components.

Specifically, the grooves that connect both systems can deteriorate with use. When this happens, the vehicle can suddenly lose traction or even become completely immobilized while driving.

The recall affects 4,922 units of the Ford Bronco manufactured between 2021 and 2025all of them with a history of intervention in that mechanical area.

Risks that cannot be ignored

Beyond the discomfort, the problem has serious implications. A loss of power while driving is not a minor detail. Added to this is another worrying scenario, the possibility of the vehicle moving on its own when parked if the system does not respond as it should.

Although Ford assures that there are no accidents or injuries linked to this failure, there are signs that set off internal alarms. The company recorded multiple complaints and technical reports that pointed to a common pattern.

Drivers may notice symptoms before the problem escalates. Metallic noises, intense vibrations or difficulties engaging gears are usually the first clues that something is wrong.

What owners should do

The recommendation is clear. Those who own a Bronco from the affected years should check to see if their unit is part of the recall. Ford suggests contacting an official dealer or consulting their service systems directly.

The brand’s plan includes a complete inspection at no cost. The alignment, condition of the parts will be checked and, if necessary, components such as the transmission or transfer case will be replaced.

Notifications will begin to be sent in May, while repairs are scheduled to begin in July. The entire process will be free for the owners.
