Juanes’ new album, “JuanesTeban”, reflects the duality of the life of this Colombian rocker, whose career has already spanned more than three decades. The production integrates, if not all, many of the personalities that live in this performer, one of the most recognized icons of Latin pop culture in the world.

“I believe that in each of us, as human beings […] There is no single state,” he said. “You are always varying, and I really like that, like working on feelings.”

But the album, which includes 16 tracks, is not only about emotions, but also about the music that lives in it, in a boy who was born in Medellín and who since childhood was nourished by smartly-liked music, although now rock is what predominates most in his DNA. That’s why there is a bit of cumbia in his songs, a bit of rancheras, a bit of corridos and traces of holy music, as he calls the rhythms derived from religious music.

“Because I feel like all of that is part of me,” he said. “In the end all those different parts complement me; it’s like I’m a kaleidoscope, a number of people living in me.”

His very name encompasses that duality, he acknowledged. He, for his parents, brothers and friends, was always Juan. Then, when he arrived at school, he continued to be Juan, “but in the end, Juan Esteban is my trusty name,” and that is why, at this moment in his life, he feels that that, complete as it is, is really his name, “and that he even embraces Juanes the artist.”

Very contemporary collaborations

This is the artist’s twelfth studio album, and in addition to being an intimate conceptual project, it is a product in which Juanes explores more contemporary trends, many of which are interpreted by artists who are from his children’s generation.

“I’m always very open, I love learning, I love studying,” he said, “I love learning about new music and rediscovering things from the past as well.”

As part of this experiment, Juanes included artists who represent a wide melting pot of styles and generations, among them some as established as Bomba Estéreo, Mon Laferte and Rawayana, and others as alternative and rebellious as Vivir Quintana.

In all of them there is a common denominator: Juanes feels admiration for each of them.

“They are very different characters, but I have admiration for all of them,” he said. “I feel that this type of collaboration sometimes greatly enriches the path and the language.”

As part of the release of this album, Juanes will begin this Friday, May 2 in El Paso, Texas, on Juanes World Tour 2026with 50 presentations between the United States, Latin America, Europe and North Africa. For this tour, he and his team will pour so many years of experience. In addition to being a very powerful screen show that has already been tested on stages in Spain, Chile, Costa Rica and Mexico at the beginning of the year, it will include very emotional moments and a lot of partying.

“It’s a celebration of life,” said the singer. “We have put together a very special screen show to celebrate, yes, that we are here, that we are alive, breathing.”
