The so-called “Piojo” Herrera with this completes his third stage as strategist of the Barça team, where He will be accompanied by the Argentine Federico Vilar and Ricardo Carbajalthe latter the most recent technical director in the Expansion League.
Herrera got his first coaching experience 24 years ago when he coached the Colts from 2002 to 2004, where He was in charge in 97 games, where he obtained 36 victories, 31 draws and 28 losses.. Then he returned to Atlante from 2010 to 2011 with 36 games coached, where he recorded 13 wins, 8 draws and 15 losses.
After a great journey through different teams and two national teams such as Mexico and Costa Rica, “Piojo” Herrera returns to Atlante, where he has always been identified and he lived his best moments as a player and later as a coach between blue and good night, reaching the maximum of a semifinal against Monterrey.
Atlante’s social networks in the morning shared a design where they gave clues that Miguel Herrera will be the coach and will make his return to the Liga MX in 2024. where in Xolos he tried to manage his football idea without any success.
At night they confirmed the hiring of the coach who saw the birth of his career as a strategist at the head of the Colts and now, after 24 years, returns to his alma mater with the intention of making a team walk with many hopes and that will seek to consolidate for the umpteenth time the image of the Potros in Mexico City.
From there it went to Costa Rica, where the Costa Rican team ended up leaving out the 2026 World Cup after a turbulent time and where he was highly questioned by fans and the press, especially for being behind Caribbean teams.
Miguel Herrera’s best moments came in the 2014 World Cup, where he managed to put together a team capable of beating Cameroon, drawing with Brazil and beating Croatia in one of the memorable victories of the Tricolor that gave way to the duel against the Netherlands.
In that game, the Aztec team had the Dutch in a fist with a goal from Giovanni Dos Santos at the beginning of the second half, but then the team led by Louis Van Gaal finished turning the tables on the Mexicans with a controversial penalty from Rafael Márquez on Arjen Robben.
In this meeting, Miguel Herrera continues to be questioned for allowing the Mexican team to retreat to take care of the result when he had the Europeans in his grasp and it seemed that he could overtake them with one of the performances of the great Aztec team, but in the end everything remained a mere wish.
