The figure exceeds 170,000 units and reaches several of its best-known models, including high-end SUVs and electrified options. This is not a minor detail or cosmetic adjustment. The problem has to do with the heart of the electrical system.

A key component at the heart of the problem
The origin of everything is in the DC-DC converter, a main piece in mild hybrid systems. This device is responsible for keeping the 12-volt electrical network operational, something essential for multiple vehicle functions to work normally.
In certain cases, that converter may fail due to a defect in its internal microchip. When that happens, the vehicle begins to chain electrical errors that can end in a complete loss of power while in motion.
It is not an immediate and explosive failure, but that is precisely where its danger lies. The progression can take the driver by surprise.
Symptoms that anticipate failure
The first signs usually appear as warnings in the vehicle system with the message “Stop safely, electrical fault detected”. From there, different systems begin to behave irregularly.
Among those affected are functions such as lane assist, stability control and electronic suspension. As the minutes pass, the situation can escalate to the deactivation of the transmission, the screens turning off, the loss of air conditioning and even the engine stopping.
On the road, a scenario like this can become critical. A vehicle that progressively loses power can be exposed to other drivers, increasing the risk of an accident.
The first reports are not recent. Already in 2019, thousands of claims were registered in the United States, with nearly 6,000 documented cases. At the time, the company did not consider the issue to be a serious risk.
