The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, assured this Monday at the beginning of his meeting with the Iranian Foreign Minister, Abbas Araqchi, that Russia will do everything possible to ensure that peace comes to the Middle East as soon as possible.

“For our part, We will do everything possible, which responds to our interests and the interests of all the peoples of the region, so that peace comes as soon as possible.. You know our position well,” said the president during the meeting held at the Presidential Library in Saint Petersburg.

Putin, who has described the US and Israeli bombings against Iran as aggression, added: “We see how bravely and heroically the people of Iran fight for their independence and sovereignty”.

For its part, Araqchí assured that both Khamenei and the president, Masud Pezeshkian, strongly asked him to convey “their best wishes” to the Russian leader..

“We are grateful for his firm and solid stance in support of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he said, and insisted on thanking his interlocutor for his condolences on the death of the previous Ayatollah, Ali Khamenei, and support for the election of his son Mojtaba as successor.
