Acting US Attorney Todd Blanche revealed this Sunday that preliminary investigations suggest that suspect in White House Correspondents’ Dinner shooting targeted senior government officials, “probably” including President Donald Trump.
In an interview on NBC’s ‘Meet the Press’, Blanche explained that, although the motive remains under investigation, the suspect’s electronic devices and interviews with his acquaintances point to an attack directed against members of the Administration.
“We believe that he intended to attack people who work in the Administration, probably including the president“said Blanche, who was present in the room during the incident.
However, he asked for caution, since the investigation is only in its first 24 hours.
The prosecutor detailed that the suspect managed to break the security perimeter of the Washington Hilton hotel by just “a few meters” before being intercepted by the Secret Service.

According to Blanche, the security system worked correctly and prevented a major tragedy.
“Let’s not forget that the suspect didn’t get very far. He barely crossed the perimeter, and by barely I mean a few meters“said Blanche, who was also in the ballroom for dinner.
Authorities have reconstructed the route of the attacker, who traveled by train from Los Angeles to Chicago and from there to Washington, DC, where he checked into the hotel a day or two before the event.
The suspect bought the two weapons he was carrying in the attack “in the last two years”said Blanche.
Initial evidence indicates he acted alone, but this interpretation could change as investigators gather more information, he added.
The attacker was arrested and taken to a local sanatorium. for evaluation, although authorities indicated he was not injured by gunfire during the incident.
Blanche confirmed that the suspect is not cooperating with investigators and is expected to be formally charged this Monday in federal court in the District of Columbia. EFE
