The case of the kidnapping of the father of Luis Diaz generates impact again after new revelations. Luis Manuel Diaz offered unpublished details about the event that occurred in 2023, ensuring that everything was the product of a betrayal that facilitated his capture in the department of La Guajira, in Colombia.
“A betrayal”: the testimony that shakes the case
Luis Manuel Díaz, father of the Colombian soccer player Luis Diazrevealed new details about the kidnapping which he suffered in October 2023 in the Caribbean department of La Guajira, where, according to his testimony, he was a victim of “a betrayal” by a person in his “close circle.” “I fell for the easiest one (…) with a person very close to me,” said Díaz Sr. in an interview published on the ‘Criminal Conduct’ podcast, in which he assured that the kidnapping was facilitated by someone he fully trusted and whom he came to consider “like a son.”
How the kidnapping occurred in La Guajira
According to him, on the day of the kidnapping he was convinced attend a supposed meeting related to political support, without suspecting that it was a trapbecause upon arriving at the place, armed men traveling on motorcycles intercepted him and his wife and forced him to head towards a rural area. In the midst of this situation, the person accompanying him left the site without warning about the situation, which confirmed his suspicions “of having been handed over.”
Twelve days of captivity and extreme conditions
He kidnapping It lasted for twelve days, in which the father of the Bayern Munich forward was subjected to constant movements through jungle and mountainous areas of northeastern Colombia, in adverse weather conditions and long walks that deteriorated his physical condition.
Six days after the kidnapping, the initial group of captors handed him over to the National Liberation Army guerrillas, who later acknowledged their responsibility in the incident.
Conviction and those responsible for the case
In 2025, Marlon Rafael Brito Bolívar was convicted for his participation in the logistics of the kidnappingafter it was proven that he collected information about the victim and coordinated the deception to attract her.
Release after international pressure
Díaz was released on November 9, 2023 in a humanitarian operation in which the United Nations and the Catholic Church participated, after intense efforts that included national and international pressure, driven in part by his son’s public demonstrations.
