The privacy of public figures returned to the center of the debate on social networks after the tense moment experienced between Gael García Bernal and a fan went viral.who recorded him without permission while he was living with close people, causing the actor’s reaction.
Images spread through TikTok and Instagram show the interaction between the actor and a follower identified as Issi Garza as he approaches the table where the famous person is talking with some friends.
However, What was intended to be a brief interaction ended up opening a debate on social networks about the limits of privacy for public figures. And Gael García Bernal questioned his follower about the reason for the filming without first requesting his consent.
“Why are you recording me?” he asked with a serious face. In response, the man said, “Because I am your fan.”
Far from feeling satisfied with the response, the protagonist of “Holland” and “A Different End” recommended having a more respectful approach. “Oh yes, but next time ask me first,” he continued.
“You are a public figure, I am your fan, I have seen your movies, I just wanted to say hello,” the user insisted, to which the filmmaker responded forcefully: “I thank you, but ask me next time.”he expressed at the close of the interaction.
Although the exchange of words did not escalate to other levels, the content creator involved gave an interview to a YouTube channel in which he criticized García Bernal’s attitude.
In his statements, in addition to referring to him as a “clown,” he said that before his own negative experience with the actor, he witnessed the “rude” attitude he would have had with another person who approached him to engage in a conversation.
As a result, divided opinions were recorded on social networks. While some called Gael García’s reaction “arrogant”, there were also those who came to his defense stating that in addition to having the right to privacywas not rude when expressing his feelings about the situation.
