As part of the commemoration of Earth Day, the actor Leonardo DiCaprio has used his voice to call against the legislative initiative that would directly impact environmental protection in the United States.

Through a publication on his Instagram account, the Oscar winner for the film “The Revenant” urged his more than 60 million followers to express their discontent against the proposal that seeks to dismantle the “Endangered Species Act” (ESA), law whose primary objective is to protect species at risk of extinction.

Today, on Earth Day, the US House of Representatives prepares to vote to weaken the Endangered Species Act (ESA), trading the future of life on Earth for short-term economic gains by a privileged few.“said the actor at the beginning of his message.

According to Leonardo DiCaprio, the only way to stop this initiative is to unite as a society and contact the representatives in the House so that they do not vote in favor of the project. that would end the law enacted in 1973 by Richard Nixon.

I urge the House to reject this existential threat to our national security and choose to protect and recover species, and defend the living systems on which we all depend (…) “Call your representative in the US today to ask him to vote ‘no’ on the ESA Amendments Act of 2025 (HR 1897). US Capitol telephone exchange: 202-224-3121,” he stated.

In his writing, the 51-year-old famous man stressed the importance of this law and explained the consequences that its revocation would bring.

The ESA was enacted more than 50 years ago by President Nixon after being approved 92-0 in the Senate and 355-4 in the House, guaranteeing the protection of species and ecosystems that sustain us. “Today’s project would devastate the most vulnerable species, which are essential for the functioning of ecosystems”he concluded.
