The technician Blue Cross, Nicolás Larcamónthere will no longer be an excuse for the “Celestial Machine” to bet on the Clausura 2026 title after the board fulfilled the requirement of seeking a return to the Azteca Stadium (Banorte) to avoid the wear and tear of the players traveling to Puebla.
The above arises after the celestial organization officially announced, through a statement on social networks, his return to the Coloso de Santa Úrsula, where he added most of his successeswith the exception of the title of the 1997 Winter tournament and the 2024 Concachampions, where he will return after two years of absence from this mythical stage.
Two weeks ago the administrators from the Banorte Stadium (Necaxa) they denied Cruz Azul the possibility of returning, at least in the current championshipto this stage, but after several efforts it was possible to return the Celeste Machine to the stage where it had its most brilliant stage in its history.
Cruz Azul had scheduled to host Necaxa next Sunday, April 26 at the Cuauhtémoc stadium.but now, after the efforts of the board headed by engineer Víctor Velázquez, they will be back on the stage that is very close to becoming a World Cup stage for the third time in history.
The board’s decision complies with the requests of strategist Nicolás Larcamón, who is in the eye of the hurricane for eight games without winning and who put as one of his many pretexts for the lack of results the wear and tear of the team from going back and forth to the games in Puebla to play at home.
Now the players will be at home and it will be easier for them to get to the resort in the south of the city to concentrate and from there, move to this stage, where the efforts to play at least the semi-final stage are carried out before the stadium becomes the responsibility of FIFA for the 2026 World Cup that will roll the ball on June 11.
Cruz Azul sought to play in this stadium from matchday 15 against Xolos, but América’s native match against Toluca and then the legends match between Mexico and Brazil prevented him, so the permission to return to what was his home for 35 years, as happened from 1971 to 1996 (25 years) in his first stage and then six years later (2018 to 2024), it is expected that he will meet his fans again on this stage.
Cruz Azul was crowned six times in this stadium, first a three-time championship in the 1971-72, 72-73 and 73-74 seasons under the command of the late coach Raúl “Guero” Cárdenas, then the two-time championship in the 1978-Seventy 9 and 1979-80 seasons with Ignacio Trelles, also deceased.
The last and most recent title on this property from the Santa Úrsula neighborhood was in the Clausura 2021 tournament under the command of the Peruvian Juan Reynosodefeating Santos Laguna.
