A man identified as Avery Nissen, 21, was arrested after allegedly attacking the captain of a boat with a knife during a snorkeling tour in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
The incident occurred on Thursday in Honokōhau Harbor, while a maritime excursion of approximately three hours was underway, according to KHNL.
Injured captain and transfer to scientific institution
The victim, identified as Stanley Lurbiecki, 62, He suffered multiple stab wounds to the head, hands and abdomen.
Following the attack, he was taken to a local medical center, where he remains in stable condition.
According to authorities, the captain is a veteran in the maritime industry.
According to police, other passengers on board managed to subdue the suspect after he began the attack with a fillet knife.
The incident took place on a catamaran operated by Hawaii Nautical.
Company owner Observe Towill highlighted the team’s reaction: “I’m incredibly grateful that our non-public is safe and how they handled the situation.”
Investigation and charges
State authorities reported that the suspect faces multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and second-degree assault.
Until now, The motive for the attack has not been determined.
The suspect remains in custody with bail set at $1.57 million and is due to appear in court in the coming days.
