Donald Trump called for liberation of a group of women sentenced to deathin what he defined as a key gesture of “good will” in the midst of a crisis marked by political tensions and complaints of human rights violations.

Through his Truth Social network, Trump made a direct appeal to Iranian leaders: “I would greatly appreciate the release of these women… Please don’t hurt them! “It would be an excellent start to our negotiations!” he wrote.

The message, which takes up information disseminated by activists, indicates that at least eight women would be at imminent risk of execution. They include Bita Hemmati, detained during protests against the Iranian regime at the beginning of the year, as well as the teenager Diana Taherabadi, 16, and the Kurdish activist Ensieh Nejati.

According to data from the National Council of Resistance of Iran, Hemmati was accused of crimes such as disturbing national security and participating in demonstrations, charges that international organizations often question for their lack of due process guarantees.

Reports of HRANA point to a broader context of repression. The agency, which documents human rights violations in Iran, notes that more than 50,000 people were detained during recent protests. Furthermore, estimates from the same opposition circle indicate that more than 300 executions were recorded in the first month of 2026 alone.

Although not all of the cases mentioned in the publication have been independently verified, human rights organizations have repeatedly denounced the use of summary trials and severe punishments against protesters in the Islamic Republic.

Trump’s call not only has a humanitarian dimension, but also a strategic one. To the linking women’s liberation to starting talksthe president introduces an element of political pressure into a diplomatic process that already faces multiple obstacles.

On social networks, a discussion has been created about this type of demands; some believe it can function as a sign of leadership on human rights and others warn it could further strain the relationship with Tehran, especially if the Iranian government perceives the request as direct interference.

To the Iranian leaders, who will shortly be in negotiations with my representatives: I would vastly luxuriate in the initiation of these girls. I am decided that they are going to appreciate the fact that you simply did so. Please earn them don’t be troubled! Shall be a gargantuan delivery to our negotiations!!! Thank you for… pic.twitter.com/HOs3OYzDVT
