A German woman carrying a homemade bomb in her backpack intended for a “planned attack” by Ukraine has been detained, the Russian security services (FSB) announced on Monday, April 20.

Apparently, the FSB reports, a citizen of a Central Asian country, acting under orders from Ukraine, convinced the woman, “born in 1969” and whose identity has not been revealed, to participate in the plot. According to the security services, this homemade explosive device was to be detonated near a security forces facility in the city of Pyatigorsk, in the Caucasus.

Controlled detonation

The FSB specified that a citizen of one of the Central Asian republics “born in 1997” has been identified. He is accused of being the one who was supposed to detonate the explosive device remotely, “while the woman was supposed to die instantly.” The device contained a charge equivalent to 1.5 kilos of TNT, he says. The explosion was prevented thanks to electronic interference.

Video footage of the alleged arrest released by state media shows armed Russian security officers approaching the woman, who was lying face down and dressed all in black in a parking lot. Another video shows masked officers dragging a man towards a police station and the controlled detonation of the backpack.
