A shooting early Sunday morning in a busy pedestrian zone in Iowa Metropolis left five people injuredincluding several university students. Authorities are looking for several suspects.
The incident occurred in Iowa Metropolis, in the vicinity of the University of Iowa, specifically in the pedestrian zone near East College and South Clinton streets.
According to the Iowa Metropolis Police Department, the shots were fired around 1:46 a.m., after unleashed a massive fight.
When officers arrived at the scene, they heard gunshots and confirmed the presence of multiple victims.
Victims and health status
Authorities reported that five people were injured in the shooting. One of them is in critical condition, while the other four are stable.
University President Barb Wilson confirmed that At least three of the injured are students of the institution.
Until now, no arrests have been made. However, the police released surveillance images of several persons of interest and requested public collaboration to identify them.
Authorities also asked to avoid the area while investigations continue.
Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds expressed concern about the incident and assured that the state will provide all necessary resources to clarify what happened.

For its part, The University of Iowa indicated that, so far, there is no evidence that students were the direct target of the attack.
The case remains in the initial stages, while authorities try to determine the exact circumstances of the shooting and find those responsible.
