A multiple accident during a qualifying day at the circuit of Nurburgring ended the life of the German pilot Juha Miettinen, 66 years old, in an event that led to the complete suspension of the activity planned for that day.
The incident occurred in the first laps of a Langstrecken Series (NLS) race, within the framework of the qualifiers for the Nürburgrin 24 Hoursg. The collision involved seven vehicles and forced the competition to stop immediately with a red flag to facilitate rescue efforts, reported ESPN.
The organization confirmed that, after the impact, Miettinen was extracted from his vehicle – a BMW 325i identified with the number 121 – and taken to the circuit’s medical center. Despite the quick intervention of emergency teams, they were unable to revive him.
“During the first race of the ADAC 24h Nürburgring qualifiers, a serious accident occurred in which Seven competitors were involved in the first laps of the race. “After the collision between several vehicles, the race management immediately stopped the competition to allow rescue and recovery efforts,” the organizers said in an official statement.

The same report detailed the outcome: “Despite the rapid arrival of emergency services, paramedics were unable to save the driver involved, Juha Miettinen (BMW 325i, #121), after being extracted from the vehicle. The pilot died at the medical center after all resuscitation attempts failed.”
Suspension of the event and attention to the others involved
After the accident, the authorities decided not to resume the competition scheduled for Saturday. The day was canceled while those involved were attended to and the conditions of the circuit were evaluated.
In the same accident, Six other pilots were affected and were transferred to medical centers for preventive check-ups.. According to official information, none of them have serious injuries.
“The other six pilots involved were taken to the medical center and nearby hospitals to undergo preventive examinations. None of the injured are in critical condition,” the organizers added.
The event had generated additional attention in this edition due to the participation of driver Max Verstappen, which increased media coverage around the competition.
As part of the aftermath of the incident, it was announced that a minute’s silence would be held in Miettinen’s memory before Sunday’s race. “T“All of us involved in the 24 Hours of Nürburgring share our feelings with Juha Miettinen’s family.”they noted in the statement.
