A federal judge ordered that immediate medical attention be provided to Jesus Hector Palma Salazarknown as “El Güero Palma”former leader of the Sinaloa cartel, who remains imprisoned in the Federal Center for Social Reintegration Number 1 “Altiplano”, in Almoloya de Juárez, State of Mexicoafter reporting a deterioration in his health.
Judicial resolution due to lack of medical care
The determination was issued by the Fourth District Court in Criminal Matters in the State of Mexicoby the judge Daniel Marcelino Niño Jiménezwho granted an ex officio and outright suspension derived from a claim for protection filed by the inmate.
According to the resolution, prison authorities must immediately provide the necessary medical services, treatments and medications according to their clinical condition.
The judge also ordered that a report be made within a period of 24 hours on compliance with the precautionary measure, warning of possible sanctions in case of non-compliance in accordance with the Amparo Law.
Health problems reported by the inmate
In the request for protection, Palma Salazar stated that he suffers from three herniated discs in the spinewhich affect the sciatic nerve and cause intense pain in the back and chest, even when breathing. He also points out that these discomforts extend from the buttock to the leg and cause insomnia.
He also reported that he was diagnosed with skin cancera disease that requires periodic check-ups in the Cancerology Clinic in Mexico Cityalthough he states that he has not been transferred for medical follow-up for approximately two years.
Complaints about lack of care in prison
In his writing, the inmate accuses that since April 13 has been ignored by the prison’s medical area, which led to the request for judicial intervention.
The judge considered that the lack of medical attention could put the dignity and personal integrity of the complainant at risk, so he ordered immediate attention.
Upright situation of “El Güero Palma”
Jesus Hector Palma Salazar was acquitted in May 2023 of the crime of organized crime. However, he remains in prison for a criminal process related to qualified homicide that occurred in 2000, linked to the murder of Paul of Tavirafounder of the Altiplano prison.
