A Welsh man pleaded guilty to keeping his mother’s body in a freezer for 3 years

A man in Wales has pleaded guilty to keeping his mother’s body in a freezer for three years after her death.

According to media such as BBC and Wales Online, the police found the body of Sylvia Phillipsaged 89, at his home in Porthcawl, south Wales, on February 17.

After the discovery, Christopher Phillips60, Sylvia’s son, was arrested and accused of stealing money from her bank account and failing to report her death to authorities, Wales Online reported.

On Thursday, April 16, Christopher admitted at Cardiff Crown Court to preventing the “ethical and dignified” burial of his mother. He also confessed to withdrawing money from her bank account after her death, ITV reported.

Sylvia is believed to have passed away in 2023.. His body was found after police received a call from his GP, who expressed concern about his health.

The cause of death has not yet been determined due to the ongoing investigation, the BBC reported.

In addition to the other charges, Christopher He also pleaded guilty to two counts of fraudfor not having notified local and national authorities of the death of his mother.

His lawyer, Ruth Smith, requested that her client’s sentence be postponed so that he could undergo a psychiatric evaluation.

At a previous hearing in March, Judge Vanessa Francis told the defendant: “I am not asking you to plead guilty today as I believe there is more information that everyone should know and understand about this case,” according to local media South Wales Argus.

On Thursday, Judge Tracey Lloyd-Clarke told Christopher that he had committed several serious offenses and that his sentence would be handed down on June 2.
