The actress Adria Arjona has been chosen to join the new DC cinematic universe after obtaining the role of “Máxima”, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. According to first reports, the debut of said character will occur in the sequel “Superman: Man of Tomorrow to Come”, a project directed by the filmmaker James Gunn.
Selection revealed that the “Andor” star won the role after competing with candidates such as: Eva De Dominici, from the series “The Cleaning Lady”; Sydney Chandler, who participated in “Alien: Earth” and Grace Van Patten, from “Expose Me Lies.”
Although the news was confirmed recently, rumors about his incorporation into the DC cinematic universe began several weeks ago, when Internet users reported interaction on social networks between director James Gunn and Adria Arjona.
At that time, there was talk of the possibility of the Latin actress giving life to ‘Surprise Lady’. However, Gunn soon dismissed these allegations.
“I follow Adria on Instagram, but everyone came out and thought: ‘He just followed her, that means she’s Wonder Woman.’ By the way, she would be a great Wonder Woman,” she said in an interview. “We are friends and we have known each other before,” he clarified.
Contrary to popular belief, Adria Arjona will not play ‘Surprise Lady’, but rather ‘Máxima’. It is an alien queen who, according to her representation in the comics, is an antagonist and possible romantic interest of ‘Superman’.
Although the specific details about the sequel to the successful film “Superman” remain unknown, so far it has been confirmed that in this new adventure: “The characters must collaborate to face a greater threat: Brainiac, an antagonist with superior intelligence played by German actor Lars Eidinger,” DC revealed.
In addition to Adria Arjona, “Superman: Man of Tomorrow to Come” will star: Rachel Brosnahan as “Lois Lane,” Skyler Gisondo as “Jimmy Olsen,” Sara Sampaio as “Eve Teschmacher,” Isabela Merced as “Hawkgirl,” Nathan Fillion as “Guy Gardner,” Edi Gathegi as “Mister Terrific” and Aaron Pierre as “John Stewart.” Additionally, David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult reprise their roles as Superman and Lex Luthor, respectively.
