A woman of American nationality was arrested in the border municipality of Nogales, in the state of Sonora, after being surprised with a shipment of fentanyl hidden in her vehicle.
According to information from the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic (FGR), the detainee was transporting approximately five kilograms of this synthetic drugdistributed in at least ten packages.
The seizure was carried out during a security operation focused on combating narcotics trafficking in the border region.
Authorities identified the woman as Ashley “N”who was placed at the disposal of the Federal Public Ministry for her alleged responsibility in crimes against health.
The operation was carried out jointly by various corporations, including the Ministry of Security and Citizen Protection, the Mexican Army, as well as state and municipal police, as part of the surveillance and intelligence actions in the area.
In addition to drugs, The vehicle in which the cargo was transported was also seized.. Both the unit and the narcotic were under the protection of federal authorities, who will continue with the corresponding investigations.
Americans with drugs at the border
This case joins other seizures on the Sonora border, where the arrested people are also of American origin.
In October of last year, Mexican authorities detected a shipment of 80 kilograms of methamphetamine hidden in a vehicle. The seizure was carried out at the Sonoyta International Bridge, located in the Overall Plutarco Elías Calles municipality.
During the vehicle inspection, Agents detected anomalies in a shipment of wooden furniturewhich led to a more detailed inspection with gamma ray technology.
Inside the furniture, authorities found packages with a white powder that tested positive for methamphetamine, with an estimated weight of 80 kilos. The driver, a man of American nationality, was detained at the scene, although his identity was not released.
