More than 50 million on alert for severe storms and tornadoes in the US

More than 50 million people are under threat of severe storms this Tuesday in the Midwest of the United Statesafter an extreme weather system left behind baseball-sized hail and multiple tornadoes.

The most affected areas include parts of Iowa, Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio and Michiganwith a level 3 out of 5 on the storm risk scale.

Cities like Chicago, Milwaukee, Des Moines and Detroit They could experience tornadoes, destructive winds, and large hail.

Tornadoes and impacts already recorded

On Monday At least 14 tornadoes were reported in states such as Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa and Wisconsin.

In Ottawa, a tornado caused significant damage, including the partial destruction of a motel and roofs ripped off several buildings. Three people suffered minor injuries.

Likewise, in Miami County, more than 50 homes were damaged after another tornado, leaving several families displaced.

The system also affects the southern Plains, especially in Oklahoma, where cities like Oklahoma Metropolis are at risk for tornadoes and hail.

In the Northeast, states including Pennsylvania, Novel York and Vermont are expecting damaging wind gusts starting Tuesday afternoon.

Floods aggravate the situation in Michigan

The intense rains, combined with the thaw, have caused severe flooding in Michigan.

The Manistee River reached record levels, exceeding 18 feet in height, causing road collapses, damage to homes and evacuations.

Authorities also warned of the risk at two dams: Bellaire Dam and Cheboygan Dam.

Both present structural risks, which has forced nearby residents to evacuate.

Forecast for the next few days

The severe weather is expected to continue on Wednesday, stretching from Oklahoma to Wisconsin, and also reaching parts of Pennsylvania and Ohio, including cities such as Pittsburgh and Cleveland.

The authorities urge the population to stay informed and prepared for possible evacuations and emergencies.
