An American Airlines flight bound for Miami was emergency diverted to Tucson after a fire broke out in the kitchen of the plane in the middle of the journey.. The aircraft landed safely and no injuries have been confirmed.

The incident occurred on Monday afternoon, when fire was detected in the kitchen area of the plane, known as the galley, according to the Tucson Scanner portal.

Route interrupted

The aircraft covered the route between Phoenix Sky Harbor World Airport and Miami World Airport.

The flight, identified as American Airlines 1429, took off around 12:15 p.m. and was diverted approximately 75 minutes later, landing around 1:30 p.m.

The pilot decided to make a preventive landing after detecting the fire, which would have been confined to the food preparation area.

So far the cause of the fire has not been confirmed and there is official information about injured people.

The flames were contained before landing. Emergency teams were waiting on the runway at the time of landing to deal with the situation.

The incident comes amid growing concerns in the airline industry about fires on board, especially related to lithium batteries in luggage.

Airlines have reinforced measures to prevent these devices from being transported inappropriately, due to the risk of overheating and combustion.
