Ukraine and Russia accused each other this Sunday of violating the current truce thousands of times for Orthodox Easter, in the middle of a war of more than four years.
Both sides had agreed to respect the ceasefire for the religious holiday, after Russian President Vladimir Putin accepted on Thursday a proposal presented by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
The Ukrainian army accused Russian forces of having violated the Easter truce 2,299 times which came into force on Saturday on the front, which is more than 1,200 km long, the Ukrainian General Staff indicated in a report published on Facebook.
“As of 07:00 on April 12 (05:00 Central European Time CET), 2,299 violations of the ceasefire were recorded, namely: 28 enemy assaults, 479 artillery bombardments, 747 attacks with attack drones (“Lancet”, “Molniya”) and 1,045 attacks with FPV drones”,
For its part, the Russian Defense Ministry accused kyiv of almost 2,000 violations in this period.
“A total of 1,971 ceasefire violations were recorded by units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine between 16:00 Moscow time on April 11 and 08:00 on April 12,” the ministry said, according to the TASS news agency.
The Kremlin indicated that the truce came into effect on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. local time (2:00 p.m. CET) and will end at the end of the day on Sunday, a total of 32 hours.
