What seemed like a winning combination, the Millie Bobby Brown phenomenon, Kerri Strug’s epic Olympic story and the Netflix push, came to a premature end. The platform canceled the production of “Finest”, the drama about Olympic gymnastics that will no longer continue after its protagonist and producer, Millie Bobby Brown decided to abandon the project.
As sources confirmed to Variety, Brown’s departure responds to irreconcilable creative differences. The actress, who achieved worldwide fame playing Eleven in “Stranger Things,” I was going to play Kerri Strug, the iconic member of the 1996 U.S. gymnastics team known as the “Magnificent Seven.”
The project, which was officially announced last Septemberinitially had Gia Coppola as directorwho left the chair early.
She was replaced by Cate Shortland (The Wolverine), with a script written by Ronnie Sandahl. In fact, Brown would not only star in the film, she also had a role as a producer through her PMCA label, along with Nik Bower (Riverstone Photos) and Thomas Benski (Magna Studios).
The moment that defined the Olympic Games
The film aimed to recreate one of the most memorable moments in the history of Olympic sports. At just 18 years old, Strug helped the American team win the gold medal by performing a dangerous jump on the colt with a severely injured ankle. After a perfect landing, her ankle completely gave way and her coach had to carry her off the mat.
Despite the setback, Time limit reported that Millie Bobby Brown maintains a more than solid relationship with the platform. The actress has just finished five seasons of “Stranger Things”, the series she began filming when she was only 12 years old.
“Enola Holmes 3” will premiere on Netflix this summer, and already production of the romantic comedy “Factual Image It” concludedin which she also works as an actress and producer alongside Gabrielle LaBelle.
In addition, Brown continues with another personal project on the same platform: the film adaptation of “Nineteen Steps”, a novel that was published in 2023 and tells the story of his grandmother Ruth.
