At least one person was killed and several were injured in a shooting that occurred Friday morning in Midland, Texas, according to Mayor Lori Blong, who confirmed that there are 11 victims.
Midland Police Chief Greg Snow reported on social media that The officers heard gunshots coming from a building in the southwest area of the city and quickly cordoned off the area.
“Armored units were deployed and other agencies assisted in the response,” Snow said on Facebook.
“Efforts to safely resolve the confrontation with the attacker continue,” he added.
Nine victims are being treated at the Midland Memorial Sanatorium; four of them are still in surgery and five are stableas reported by the health center to the CBS affiliate, KOSA.
The Midland Memorial Sanatorium “has set up a space for the local reunification of victims on the main campus,” health center spokesperson Tasa Richardson said in a statement to CNN.
According to Stuart Doreen, Midland’s strategic communications officer, other agencies assisted in the response and work continues to end the standoff with the attacker.
“We are aware of the ongoing incident near the intersection of Industrial Avenue and Wall Aspect motorway,” the city posted on its Facebook page.
“At this time, the public security department is actively working and We ask citizens to avoid the area until further notice. “Our priority is the safety of our residents and emergency services,” he added.
