Pool season in Los Angeles begins with community event

With the “Splash ‘n’ Tear” 5K/1K race, at the Hansen Dam Aquatic Heartscheduled for this Sunday, June 14, the city of Los Angeles’ summer pool season begins.

The City of Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks (RAP) announced Thursday that the June 14 event combines a family-friendly race with free water activities, water safety education and public access to the largest recreational pool in the country.

The program begins with the “Splash ‘n’ Tear” 5K/1K race, followed by a pool party and community resource fair with swimming classes, kayaking, paddleboarding and other water activities sponsored by the PlayLA Formative years program and Adaptive Sports for Youth from RAP.

The activities will serve to present the range of aquatic programs available from RAP. The event highlights the city’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to water safety education, swimming and affordable recreation for residents, particularly in the San Fernando Valley.

“We are proud Helping make events like ‘Splash ‘n’ Tear’ a reality“said the executive director of the Los Angeles Parks Foundation, Amber Martínez, in a statement.

“Hansen Dam is a jewel of the park system, and this event shows what can be achieved when public agencies, community partners and philanthropy come together to expand access to recreationaquatic safety and experiences for all Angelenos,” he added.

“The opening of our summer pool season reflects our continued investment in the northeast San Fernando Valley and our commitment to creating spaces where residents can stay activelearn new skills and forge lasting ties with the community,” he added.

For the main Recreation Supervisor of the RAP, Maha Yateem, The Hansen Dam Aquatic Center is one of the San Fernando Valley’s most beloved recreational destinations.and highlighted that the best way to start the pool season is with the “Splash ‘n’ Tear” event.

“Whether you’re preparing for a 5K race or entering the pool for the first time, We have designed this day to welcome everyone, and that is what PlayLA is all about“said Yateem.

The “Splash ‘n’ Tear” event, which takes place from 7:30 am to 2:00 pm on Sunday, June 14is part of the PlayLA initiative, which connects Angelenos of all ages and backgrounds with free and low-cost recreational programs at parks and facilities throughout Los Angeles.

The Hansen Dam Aquatic Heart is located at 11770 Foothill Boulevard, in Lake Be conscious Terrace. It is a recreational landmark for the northeast of the San Fernando Valley.

The facility offers aquatic programs year-round, and The summer season marks a period of maximum activity for the community and youth participation.
