Mayor Karen Bass’s Brother Files Lawsuit Against the City of Los Angeles for the loss of their property due to the Palisades Fire, which broke out on January 7, 2025.

Court documents show that Kenneth D. Bass is among thousands of homeowners who lost their residences by the conflagration that broke out in the hills of Pacific Palisades.

In addition to the city, the supreme action aims to the state of California, the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) and to other entities.

A large number of residents affected by the fire blame the city of Los Angeles for the destruction of their properties, and some were surprised to learn that the mayor’s brother joined the lawsuit.

On the morning of January 7, 2025, The strong Santa Ana winds spread the red-hot bases of the Pacific Palisades until they reached Malibucausing widespread devastation.

The lawsuit represented the property as a “complete fire.”and it is mentioned that Kenneth Bass suffered from “smoke inhalation” and “emotional distress.”

A Malibu resident, Abe Roy, who also suffered the loss of his home and who runs a business that helps families rebuild, declared that the situation is unusual, but understandable.

“The political situation is very strange. He is another resident who has suffered significant loss and damage, and has every right to demand and do justice“Roy expressed.

Karen Bass did not agree to grant interviews at the request of the media. The mayor’s press secretary, Paige Sterling, issued a statement on the matter.

“There is nothing new here: Mayor Bass has spoken publicly about the loss of her brother since January 2025. Thousands of people are plaintiffs in this action,” the press secretary said in part of her statement.

The team of lawyers representing Kenneth Bass and many of the homeowners affected by the Palisades fire said that the relationship of the plaintiff to the public official is not important.
