The president of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, assured this Thursday that the inauguration of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will have Mexico City as one of its venues, will be carried out without setbacks thanks to coordinated work of the federal and capital governments.

“As we said, the World Cup, The opening of the World Cup is going to take place very well without any problems. The entire team of the city government and the government of Mexico is there to guarantee it“said the president during her morning press conference.

His statements come amid protests by members of the National Coordinator of Education Workers (CNTE), who have carried out blockades and demonstrations, which in some cases have turned violent, in different parts of Mexico City to demand labor improvements.

The Mexican president affirmed that the authorities are already working to guarantee the correct development of the sporting event most important in world football.

Mexico will be one of the three host countries of the 2026 World Cup along with the United States and Canada. Mexico City will host the opening match of the tournament at the Azteca Stadium, which will become the first stadium in the world to host three World Cup openings, after those in 1970 and 1986.

The president also expressed her support for the Mexican soccer team ahead of the international tournament.
