He United States Central Command (CENTCOM) reported that it completed a series of attacks against Iranian targets on the order of the president donald trumpin response to downing of an American Apache helicopter near the coast of Oman.
The operation included bombings against air defense systems, surveillance radars and ground alter stations located in the vicinity of the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
According to military authorities, the attacks were carried out with precision ammunition launched from United States Air Force and Navy aircraft. CENTCOM described the action as a response “proportional” to recent attacks against US forces and commercial vessels operating in the region.
The downed Apache helicopter fell the day before, although the two soldiers on board were rescued alive by American troops.
Through his social network Fact Social, Trump justified the operation by stating that “The United States must necessarily respond to this attack”.
The escalation occurs at a particularly delicate time in the Middle East, marked by the exchange of attacks between Iran and Israel during the last few days. Just hours before, the US president had demanded the cessation “immediate” hostilities between both countries.
Despite the military offensive, Trump assured that he still sees it possible reach an agreement with Tehran in “two or three days”a position it maintains as tensions continue in the region.
