The Barranquilla Shakira revealed the details behind the creation of “Dai Dai”their official song for the 2026 World Cup that will be held in Mexico, Canada and the United States.
On this occasion, The formula for success included an unexpected but powerful international alliance: together with the British artist Ed Sheeran.
In a recent interview with the magazine Voguethe Colombian singer confessed the origin of this collaboration that is already igniting football passion.
Shakira decided to look for British singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran to join as co-author of the project. “I called Ed Sheeran and asked him if he wanted to write it with me,” said the artist.. In his words, the “Shape of You” singer’s response was immediate and enthusiastic: “He told me that writing something for the world would be his dream.”
To shape the sound of “Dai Dai,” released in mid-May, The Barranquilla was looking for a vibrant and multicultural atmosphere that reflected the identity of the tournament.
He explained that he wanted to organically fuse Afrobeat, Caribbean rhythms and acoustic guitars. The final touch came from the hand of Nigerian star Burna Boy, whose voice provided, in Shakira’s words, “the icing on the cake.”
With this launch, Shakira consolidates her status as the undisputed queen of soccer soundtracks after their successes in Germany 2006 (“Hips Don’t Lie”), South Africa 2010 (“Waka Waka”) and Brazil 2014 (“La La La”).
The Barranquilla woman concluded by assuring that music and football share the same ability to unite the masses through a powerful message and an unforgettable melody.
